Heart & Circulation Simulation, Years 9–11

Students explore an animated section through the heart, selecting each chamber, valve and vessel and watching the valves open and close through the cardiac cycle. They follow blood through the pulmonary and systemic circuits, see how much blood each organ receives, then change exercise intensity to see heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output and blood pressure respond. Profiles for a trained athlete, high blood pressure and heart failure support discussion of fitness and disease. The full interactive is available to licensed Education Universe users.

Teaching guidance

Have students predict where blood goes next before each stage of the cardiac cycle, then use the Exercise tab to collect heart rate and stroke volume data at three intensities and calculate cardiac output.

Classroom use

This licensed explorer supports teaching Circulatory System in Year 9. Teachers can use the resource as part of a lesson, investigation or classroom discussion. Full interactive access requires an eligible Education Universe licence or trial.
